[GeoGuessr] Poles meta
Recently I’ve been really addicted to GeoGuessr, and it’s a lot of fun learning about the distinct features of different countries around the world.
Currently I am study the poles around the world, there are some very similar pole in different country, so I have made some note on its feature and how to separate them.
-
Holey Pole
Holey poles have see-through holes in the body of the pole. They look similar to ladder poles at a glance, but the key difference is that ladder poles have no holes.
-
Europe
- Hungary — holes run all the way from top to bottom.
- Poland — holes do not extend the full height of the pole.
- Romania — ladder spacing is wider, and the bottom portion is painted.

-
Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka has two types of concrete poles. The holey variant has:- Large see-through holes concentrated in the lower half.
- Usually 3 large insulators visible at the top.

-
Vietnam
- Holes can extend up to half or even three-quarters of the pole height.
- Sometimes two poles are joined side by side.
- Holes are noticeably smaller than those on Sri Lankan poles.

-
-
Ladder Pole
Ladder poles get their name from their resemblance to ladder rungs, horizontal bars or indents along the pole body, with no holes.
-
Brazil
- Rectangular cross-section.
- Long segments at the base, transitioning to small holes near the top.

-
Chile
- Square cross-section.
- Indent on both sides with fewer horizontal supports inside the indent.
- Small pinholes typically appear in the upper portion.

-
Cambodia
- Thin and narrow.
- Has an indent rather than full ladder rungs.

-
France and Spain
- Most “ladder-like” appearance, evenly spaced rungs.
- France and Spain share the same pole design; use other meta to tell them apart.

-
Portugal
- Tall, widely spaced ladder steps.
- Each step often has a small see-through hole.
